Prologue of the Forest of Faralee

Comment what you think down below... about the story, sense there definitely needs to be some spelling changes and it hasn't been edited yet... I will be posting little by little of the book now,

Prologue

The wind blew in the man’s face, making him shiver in the cold, as he made his way through the brightly lit cave. One of his men had reported that the master had wanted to see him.
Even being far underground in the secret caves could not block the wind from getting to them. Yes, the rain could not reach them there. But the powerful wind could.
Asklif and his men were hiding in the caves far below the surface of Faralee, where only a few special people would know to look. Asklif stopped when he reached a tall bonfire far from the other fires. Standing in front of the fire with his back to Asklif was his master the Superior Alpha of their group.

The Alpha was dressed in all black, and topped it off with a dark cowl covering his head. “I hear you bring news… Scarface” his master said in a sly voice.
Scarface.
That was what Asklif was known as in the world above the caves. The mighty elf bandit that story spinners terrorized children with tales of. He was a legend to them, and that was what he had wanted to be ever sense he could remember. But he had not wanted to be remembered as a bandit.
As a child he had wanted to be a great hero of Faralee… but after a horrible incident, everyone saw him as an outcast, a villain.
Nothing he had ever wanted to be.
But then he had met his master who had turned his life around, telling him that in order to be a legend he had to be what everyone wanted and expected him to be.
It was the only way.

Over time through the years, in his raids Asklif had been left with scar upon scar carved into his face. So that was what everyone had started to call him.
Scarface.
What a petty name it was, he thought. As a legend he had wanted to earn a dark and sinister name, one that would strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. But that was the only name he got. Bitterness filled up inside him at the thought. All the years of hard work and that was what got…. a very original name. “Captain Scarface, your report” his master demanded coldly, jolting Asklif from his bitter thoughts.

He quickly nodded “Oh, ah, yes sorry my lord” he paused.

“Continue, Captain,” the Alpha said patiently, somehow the sound of his patient voice set Asklif more unease, then a un patient one. Swiftly he began again.

“Umm yes, the report. Well, my scouts have indeed spotted the younger princess by the Great Silver Sea, she appears to go there every day. Just like you said, your plan seems to be working, master”. It always unnerved Asklif how his master could know what someone was going to do even before they thought about it themselves.

“Hmm yes, but there is more, isn’t there captain” the Alpha replied, slowly turning around to face him.

Asklif swallowed and his throat went dry with fear. How did he possibly know? How could he know? He had learned the hard way what happened to people that disappointed the Alpha. His brother had died by mysteriously drowning. No one said it, but everyone knew what had really happened. “Umm yes, my lord, there is always a different figure following her through the forest every day. She appears to be unaware of it” he answered.

The cowl of the Alpha’s cloak was still over his head, not letting Scarface make out his features. At times like this he wished he could see his master’s face, maybe try to read it. But it was impossible. Asklif had tried to read it before. It hadn’t worked.

“Well, captain, continue to keep an eye on our little princess there, make sure that there is no change in her routine. And do find out who else has been following her. Don’t disappoint me,” Alpha instructed. Scarface started to turn to leave but was stopped at the call of his master. “Remember, Captain I want the great Harwen to experience as much pain as he caused me, after what he did…”

Scarface dipped his head back to him “My lord how much longer will it take? When do you plan to strike?” he asked the master.

A sinister smile widened onto his face “Be patient captain. Four months is an estimate. I must speak to Beta about it” the Alpha answered, “Dismissed,” he waved his hand in a shooing gesture. Scarface bowed again then went back through the cave the way he came, kicking rocks as he walked.

Four more months until their move? Scarface wished he didn’t have to wait that long. “I will show them what a true legend looks like” he promised himself under his breath.

It was then that one of his lieutenants ran up to him “Sir should we continue the raids?” he asked.

“Yes Mithrae, launch a small raid on Dragonstone Ridge, on the day after the marrow. The more we show our power, the more we gain.” With a salute Mithrae ran off to inform his troops that were warming themselves by the fire.

The Alpha’s mission was to get revenge on King Harwen of Faralee, for what he did to him. Not a soul knew what the king had supposedly ‘done’ to the Alpha. Over years and years, the Alpha had gathered forces gathering his own followers to do his bidding. Scarface was loyal to his master but he had his own revenge to plan…...
There was no changing his given outlaw name, for once it got around not a single soul could forget it.  But he could get his revenge on the person who had started to call him ‘Scarface’ in the first place.
He would show them all what he was capable of, and soon a time would come when they all paid, starting with the one. The making of a new era was under way after all…

He took out his hand mirror and looked into it.
An elven girl was trapped inside it and she was bound to obey his every command, that was how he knew what was going on a above the caves. With spies of course as well.

“Show me my enemy” he spoke to it. The mirror’s face shimmered and on it appeared the image of a teenage girl climbing a tree. He would never forget her name, since that girl was the one who had given him his name. Soon though, she would find out what true pain felt like. And he knew exactly where to find her, because everyone in Faralee knew where that place was.

For that girl was Princess Carla Dane.
